How to Minimize Large Facial Pores

Our oil glands produce sebum (oil), which flows through the pore lining and onto the surface of our skin. However, when the oil glands produce too much sebum, this excess oil mixes with other substances in the pore, causing the pore to clog and results in the enlargement of the pore to allow the sebum to flow onto the surface of the skin.

8 Easy Steps To Minimize Enlarged Pores

1. Find The Right Skin Care Products For Your Skin Type

Use skin care products suitable for your skin type. Skin care products that are too emollient may lead to clogged pores, especially if you have oily skin. Skin care products that clog your pores or cause your oil glands to produce more sebum may lead to enlarged pores.

2. Avoid Alcohol, Mint, Menthol and Fragrances

Drying and irritating ingredients in your skin care products may also cause excess sebum production, leading to enlarged pores.

3. Are You Using Thick & Heavy Makeup

The type of makeup you use could also be contributing to your clogged and enlarged pores. Thick, heavy makeup used to cover up blemishes and uneven skin tone could make your enlarged pores worse.

Don’t Forget To Remove All Traces Of Makeup Before You Sleep

It is essential to remove all your makeup before you sleep. Makeup worn overnight can cause clogged pores, eventually leading to blackheads, white bumps and dull skin.

4. Use A Gentle Facial Cleanser

Use gentle, water-soluble cleansers. If your cleanser is drying or causes skin irritation, it can cause more sebum production, resulting in clogged and enlarged pores.

In addition, do not use bar soaps on your face!

The ingredients that allow bar soaps to hold its shape can clog your pores.

5. Apply BHA Exfoliant

Use a Beta-Hydroxy Acid (BHA) exfoliant in gel or liquid form. BHA exfoliants help to remove excess skin cells from the surface of the skin and also help to exfoliate from the inside of the pore. BHA is able to penetrate the oil to clean from the inside of your pores, preventing clogging and helping to normalize the lining of the enlarged pore.

6. Absorb Excess Oil

In the hot and humid Singapore weather, excess facial oil is unavoidable. Absorb the excess oil using products like Shine Stopper Instant Matte Finish and Skin Balancing Oil-Absorbing Mask.

7. Apply Niacinamide Pore Treatment

Provide your skin with lots of antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients such as Niacinamide to help to maintain skin health.

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 and research has proven it can dramatically reduce the appearance of visibly enlarged pores and visibly reduce wrinkles. With age and accumulated sun damage, the follicle (pore) wall becomes damaged, and often stretches as skin’s supportive elements (collagen and elastin) are depleted. The result is enlarged pores that may or may not become clogged. Topical application of Resist 10% Niacinamide Booster can help to restore normal pore functioning, as its firming and smoothing effect can visibly improve pore size and uneven skin texture.

Resist 10% Niacinamide Booster was specifically formulated to supercharge your favourite serum or moisturizer and to address the concern of large pores as well as multiple signs of aging like an uneven skin tone and dull complexion.

Provide your skin with lots of antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients to help to maintain skin health. For enlarged pores, stick to using products with a gel, liquid or very thin serum texture to prevent clogging.

8. Seek Doctor’s Advice

Finally, you could consult a doctor to check your hormone levels. Our hormones control most of our sebum production. Abnormal hormone levels could be the cause of excess oil production that results in enlarged pores. For females, low-dose birth-control pills could be an option to reduce hormone levels that are causing excess sebum production.
