Want to show off your sexy back this summer but having a few back acne problems? Back acne can be an irritating skin care concern but the good news is that it can be easily taken care of.

Here is a guide on how to get rid of back acne quickly, easily and fuss-free.

Back Acne Treatments

Diligently including some of these back acne treatment methods in your daily routine will allow you to see big changes in your skin.

1) BHA For Body

“The skin of the back and chest is more rigid than the face.”

For the body, the basics of fighting breakouts apply, but you may need to opt for stronger formulas, as the skin of the back and chest is ‘thicker‘ or more rigid than the face.

Start with the basics—a BHA exfoliant that is optimized for the skin below the neck, eg. Clear Acne Body Spray with 2% Salicylic Acid. Packaged with a spray top that works from any angle, this BHA exfoliant is loaded with potent anti-inflammatory ingredients, dries quickly, and is strong enough to treat body breakouts.

2) Post Workouts Routine

As soon as you’ve finished your exercise routine, hop in the shower and use a fragrance-free cleanser for the body and your usual facial cleanser. Sweat mixed with other substances (bacteria, skincare products, makeup, etc.) on the skin’s surface creates an ideal environment for breakouts—getting rid of it right away is a big step towards reducing the risk of post-workout acne.

If showering isn’t possible, at the very least bring a clean, dry change of clothes and rinse your face with fresh water or, better, a cleansing cloth. The change of clothes will reduce the amount of sweat and bacteria trapped against skin and rinsing your face will do the same. Once home, be sure to wash your face or shower as soon as possible.

“Avoid Using An Emollient Conditioner”

Be sure to rinse your shampoo & conditioner well from hair, and then wash any residue away from skin by cleansing your face and body as the last step in your shower routine. Not doing so can evoke clogged pores.

3) Adding Benzoyl Peroxide In Your Routine

“Benzoyl Peroxide helps reduce the bacteria that are “supporting players” in the development and lifespan of breakouts.

Apply it once or twice daily to help boost the acne-fighting results of your BHA exfoliant.

When using Benzoyl Peroxide on the chest or back, allow 30-60 minutes before bedtime as Benzoyl Peroxide can affect the colour of bed fabrics and clothing.

What Causes Pimples On Back and Shoulders?

The causes of back acne are similar to those that affect your face. Acne is typically caused by hair follicles that become plugged with dead skin cells and oil that causes the skin to become inflamed. There are a few reasons why this happens.

  • Hormonal Activity – Hormone levels and hormone changes will cause the body’s sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more oil.
  • Medications – Some medications that contain or stimulate androgens, corticosteroids, or lithium can play a role in the development of acne.
  • Heredity – Researchers believe that our genes affect the occurrence of acne as well! If your parents had acne, you are more likely to get it as well.
