Signs of ageing such as wrinkles and brown spots are caused not only by ageing, but also by unprotected exposure to the sun. As a protective measure to minimise signs of ageing, it is absolutely crucial to always wear sunscreen.

Common Ingredients

Common ingredients used in anti-ageing skincare products are retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid. Most anti-ageing skincare products contain some sort of antioxidant, which protects your skin from harmful free-radical damage. Anti-ageing skincare products are really all about repairing skin damage and ensuring that the skin functions properly so that it acts like younger-looking, undamaged skin.

Since antioxidants are beneficial for all skin (both young and old), there is no ‘minimum’ age at which one should start using anti-ageing skincare products!

Start Early

In fact, it is best to start protecting your skin from sun damage and giving your skin the vital nutrition that it needs at an earlier age. Don’t wait until you notice signs of ageing before you start taking proper care of your skin! Here are some tips to start early:

  • Apply a generous amount of broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, regardless of cloudy the day is. This is the most crucial step, which helps to minimise sun damage and signs of ageing associated with sun damage. Using anti-ageing skincare products containing potent antioxidants and skin-repairing ingredients, no matter how effective, will help you achieve younger-looking skin if you do not use sunscreen daily.
  • Use an exfoliant that contains AHA or BHA daily. This helps to improve skin texture.
  • Use other products with potent antioxidants, such as vitamin C and retinol. This helps to minimise free-radical damage.
